COMPANY HISTORY
Border Research Solutions traces its
beginnings to 1986, when a small management consulting business was established
to address the growing need for information and communication services demanded
by rapidly emerging demographic shifts. Initially under the name of “The
Communications Group” (TCG), early efforts focused on socially conscious
projects, including technical assistance to colonias, minority health research,
public outreach programs, and small business assistance. Indeed, these early
efforts resulted in legislative improvements, increased funding and a new
awareness of border communities. In the 1990s the nature of the company was
adapted to meet the growing technology requirements of business and government.
In 1996 the company opened its information technology division and became
incorporated under the name, Technology and Communications Gateway (still TCG).
Despite a new emphasis on technology, the
company continued to focus its research division on socially meaningful
projects, with an emphasis on health and education. Long having recognized the health
disparities encountered along the border (particularly among Hispanic and Native
Americans), and with Hispanics soon to become the largest minority population in
the United States, the firm recognized the urgency in establishing a stand-alone
organization to attend to the research and informational needs created by this
demographic/socio-economic phenomenon. In moving this important function from
the parent company, Border Research Solutions (BRS) was founded.
